Vegan Cinnamon Roll Waffles
So, do you still remember where your waffle maker's hiding? All of us probably had that moment when we thought: brilliant, I definitely need a waffle maker (alternatively: sandwich maker, donut maker, raclette grill...)! The first weekend after, we immediately invited all our friends over for a big waffle feast – and since then, the little thing keeps disappearing further and further back in the cupboard. Sound familiar?
But today it's coming back into daylight (and will stay there more often – really, promise!). Because we've got a brilliant idea for you that combines cinnamon rolls and waffles: vegan cinnamon roll waffles from ready-made dough. Yes, you read that right – you don't need homemade yeast dough, no hours of rising time, and no rolling out. Instead, you grab ready-made vegan cinnamon roll dough from the chiller section, pop it in the waffle maker and voilà: in 20 minutes, you've got crispy, cinnamon-y waffles with frosting on the table.
But why in the waffle maker?
An admittedly not completely absurd question. Because cinnamon rolls are usually known for their soft fluffiness. But once you've gotten familiar with the advantages of waffle maker cinnamon rolls, you risk never wanting to go back! Because in the waffle maker, the rolls get beautifully crispy on the outside, the cinnamon filling caramelizes, and inside we still find juicy deliciousness. And that in record time!
By the way: if you only have a sandwich maker at home, give it a try with that too!
Tips & tricks for preparation
To make sure your cinnamon roll waffles turn out really good, here are a few practical tips for you:
Grease the waffle maker well: Even if your waffle maker has a non-stick coating – a bit of vegetable oil never hurts. This way the waffles come off easily and don't burn.
Don't bake too long: Approx. 3 minutes are enough until the waffles are golden brown. If you leave them in too long, they'll get too dark and lose their moisture. So keep an eye on them!
Don't close the waffle maker too firmly: The dough expands while baking. So don't force the waffle maker shut, otherwise the dough will squeeze out the sides (which isn't bad, but makes the waffles a bit misshapen).
Put frosting on warm waffles: When the waffles are still warm, the frosting melts slightly and soaks in better. This not only looks prettier but tastes better too.
How do you make homemade cinnamon roll dough?
Anyone who has a bit more time and leisure on a Sunday morning can of course make the dough themselves like a proper baker! This'll surely be rewarded not just with impressed oohs and aahs from friends or family, but also with a wonderfully fluffy yeast dough. You can find the recipe for that here.
Vegan Cinnamon Bun Waffles
Ingredients
- 2 packages store-bought vegan cinnamon roll dough
- 50 g (0.5 cup) confectioner's sugar
- 1 tsp water
- vegetable oil for greasing
Instructions
Preheat your waffle iron. In the meantime remove store-bought dough from the package and cut each into 4 equal-sized pieces.
Grease the heated waffle iron with some vegetable oil. Depending on the size of your waffle iron, add one or two cinnamon rolls, then close the waffle iron and bake waffles for approx. 3 minutes or until golden brown. Afterwards repeat this step until all the dough is used up.
Add confectioners sugar and water to a small bowl and stir to combine. If the glaze is too thick for your taste, add a bit more water. Drizzle glaze on top of cinnamon waffles while they are still warm, serve directly.
